Blood Flow Restriction Training (BFRT)

Creating patient specific BFRT programs for superior outcomes in the fitness and rehab setting

Instructor: Pieter de Smidt, PT, DPT, Cert MDT, MTC, FMS-C

Course Length: 2.5 hour | Tuition: $79.99 or FREE for Elite Passport Members (learn more)

This is a livestream, interactive course.  The instructor will teach in real time and you will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions.

Benefits of Attending

  • Learn about different types of equipment used for BFRT
  • Understand how BFRT can safely help your clients and patients gain strength, hypertrophy and cardio-vascular capacity
  • Learn how this research-based exercise approach allows you train your patients or clients with light resistance training and get the same result as high intensity training
  • Develop and devise a training program for the fitness as well as the rehab setting
  • Learn about indication and contra-indications of this exercise approach

Description

Guided by dynamic live and pre-recorded demonstrations you will gain a foundational understanding of evidence informed BFRT training.  You will learn to identify the indications and contra-indications for BFRT, and you will learn to properly screen patients for this type of treatment.  You will see various equipment types and identify what to use and when.  Doppler use on the lower and upper body will be demonstrated and explained. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of the body’s response to BFRT and how it focuses on growth and not just repair.  Through sample programs, you will gain the knowledge and confidence to create your own patient specific BFRT programs for successful outcomes in your own setting.

BFR Course Objectives

  • Explain the benefits of blood flow restriction training (BFRT) and how it results in increased strength, hypertrophy and endurance.
  • Identify indications and contraindications of BFRT Training as well as implement safety protocols for treatment
  • Demonstrate safe and effective placement of BFRT cuffs, pressure limits and targeted exercises
  • Identify precautions to and describe the body’s response to BFRT
  • Relate the utility of BFRT in the rehabilitation setting
  • Develop and devise a BFRT training program for both the rehab and fitness settings
