Trigger Point Therapy for Backaches and Herniated Discs
Clearwater, FL August 9, 2025
Trigger point therapy is one of the most intriguing and fast-growing bodywork styles in the world. Designed specifically to alleviate pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release, this practice is particularly effective for relieving backache and herniated discs. Your instructor, Mark Bigelow, will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the background and basics of trigger points, how they develop, where the common locations are, and the difference between active and latent trigger points. In addition, you will be introduced to techniques known to help assess the difference between muscular dysfunction and disk displacement, which of these techniques work best, and for what reasons.
Mark Bigelow, a veteran massage therapist since 1986, specializes in muscular pain and sports injuries. Affectionately called “MacGyver” by his students, he uses creative tools like ropes, beach balls, and Play-Doh to make complex concepts accessible and engaging. In 1992, he invented the Air-O-Flex abdominal exerciser and later earned a patent for the "Sarcomere - Three Dimensional Teaching Model," now used in medical schools worldwide. Mark has lectured extensively on repetitive movement syndromes, consulted for Levi-Strauss & Co., and developed a self-help video on carpal tunnel syndrome. With teaching experience at Palm Beach Academy and Palm Beach Community College, he's also a sought-after speaker at industry conventions.
