About the course
This course is ideal for therapists and athletic trainers that want to enhance their manual skills to help their patients with pain in the cervical spine area. First, a hands-on treatment approach for patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the cervical spine should start with a comprehensive evaluation. When assessing a patient with pain in the cervical region, the neck, the upper back, and the entire upper dynamic chain should be reviewed.
This course covers a variety of treatment techniques and uses extensive videos for demonstration. Topics include Pain Science Education, Cupping & IASTM, cervical joint mobilizations, the BPS model, and progressive exercise therapy from isometrics to fitness and weightlifting. Get comfortable treating the upper cervical spine, the mid-cervical spine, and upper thoracic region.

- Identify indications and contraindications for manual therapy, including mobilization/manipulation, IASTM and cupping.
- Recognize comprehensive, integrated manual therapy treatments for most common movement disorders in the Cervical spine.
- Select treatments that integrate IASTM and cupping with active movement to improve mobility and function of the Cervical spine.
- Recognize proper progressions of introductory tool/cupping techniques to more advanced movement-based techniques.
- Recognize difference in restrictions between joint restrictions and soft tissue restrictions and the appropriate manual therapy techniques for each.
- Identify when joint mobilization techniques for cervical spine are indicated and how these techniques reduce pain.
- Select appropriate exercises and appropriate programming for patients in pain.
- Recognize benefits of including pain science education and BPS model for a holistic treatment approach.
- Identify patient’s drivers of pain and disability.
- Recognize the effects of IASTM and Cupping, based on our understanding of the effects of this type of treatments.
- Identify appropriate components of a complete orthopedic evaluation of the cervical spine.
