About the Course
Chronic wounds are known for their large share of healthcare cost and limiting quality of life for many patients. Therefore, it is important for healthcare professionals to have the knowledge necessary to identify causes which limit wound healing progression, to provide the ideal environment for wound healing, and to understand the intrinsic and extrinsic variables at play. This video course is intended to instruct the professional to address other factors in wound care besides wound dressings. The course dives into each of these topics and expounds on how edema, malnutrition, and biochemical pathways lead to the development of chronic wounds.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the learner will be able to:
Bettina M. Brown, MPT, MHA, CWS, CLT, is a physical therapist working in Albuquerque, New Mexico, having received her master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of New Mexico. She earned her board certification in wound care in 2016 through the American Board of Wound Healing. She has published an article entitled Managing Cutaneous Tuberculosis: A Case Study in the Ostomy and Wound Management Journal in 2017. Later that year, she obtained her certification through the Klose Lymphedema Certification program in 2017. She primarily works with clients that have lymphedema due to breast cancer treatment, or due to vascular insufficiencies and chronic health co-morbidities.
