About the Course:
This course presents current methods and screening recommendations for early detection of breast cancer, describes the common types of breast cancer and updated cancer staging criteria, and discusses advances in local and systemic treatment modalities, including targeted therapy and immunotherapy.

About the Presenter:
Marcelle Kaplan, RN, MS, CNS is an independent oncology nursing consultant and member of the Cancer Institutional Review Board at Weill Cornell Medical College in Manhattan, NY. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in both biology and nursing and an MSN from the State University of New York at Brooklyn. Ms. Kaplan was the Breast Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at Weill Cornell Medical Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital and led a weekly breast cancer support group for 13 years and consulted with the Reach-to-Recovery program of the American Cancer Society in Manhattan. She has also served as nursing school faculty at the undergraduate and graduate level. Ms. Kaplan has long been a supporter of nursing certification, starting as a writer of test questions for Oncology Certified Nurse exams and progressing to President of the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC). Her oncology nursing certifications have included oncology certified nurse (OCN®), advanced oncology certified nurse (AOCN®), and certified breast care nurse (CBCN®). She was active in developing the Certified Breast Care Nurse credential. In 2011, Ms. Kaplan received the Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse of the Year award. Her editorial roles have included Associate Editor of the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing, editor of Understanding and Managing Oncologic Emergencies: A resource for nurses, and editor of Oncology Nursing, 4th edition, for Colibri Healthcare, LLC. Most recently, she was the first author of "ONS Guidelines™ for cancer treatment-related hot flashes in women with breast cancer or men with prostate cancer", published in the Oncology Nursing Forum.
