About the Course
The purpose of this course is to provide licensed practical nurses with information about concepts related to caring and compassion; an overview of palliative and hospice care, including standards; implicit bias; nursing assessments and interventions; and pharmacologic considerations in patient care. Grief, death, religious considerations during end-of-life care and legal concepts are included.


Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Identify concepts related to palliative and hospice care.
  • Discuss the standards and competencies of palliative nursing practice.
  • Discuss nursing assessments and interventions in palliative and hospice care.
  • Describe concepts related to death and dying.
  • Identify legal concepts related to the patient's bill of rights, advance directives, and living wills.


About the Author
Robyn Caldwell, DNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP, has been a leader for more than 30 years in nursing practice, education, and mentoring. Her expertise includes adult mental healthcare, emergency nursing, and urgent care in rural settings. Dr. Caldwell has a passion for curriculum development, emphasizing student success. She has designed clinical family nurse practitioner programs, student success programs, and critical thinking workshops. Dr. Caldwell has published and presented on topics relevant to nursing education and patient outcomes in local, state, and national venues. Her research interests include family practice, mental health, critical thinking, and student success.
