About the Course:
This course provides an update on the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) diseases; immunizations; treatments; and prevention of spread.  Includes nursing interventions and teaching information for all nurses interacting with children and adults.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
  • Describe common symptoms and potential complications associated with measles, mumps, and rubella.
  • Discuss potential postexposure prophylaxis treatments appropriate for use after exposure to measles, mumps, or rubella.
  • Compare differences between the adult and child immunization schedules for vaccination against measles, mumps, and rubella.
  • List two contraindications and precautions for vaccination against measles, mumps, and rubella using the MMR vaccine product.
  • Discuss two strategies that can be used to improve immunization rates.

About the Authors:  
Bradley Gillespie, PharmD, was trained as a clinical pharmacist and has practiced in the industrial setting for over 20 years. His initial role was as a Clinical Pharmacology and Biopharmaceutics Reviewer at FDA, followed by 15 years of leading Early Development programs in the pharmacology, biotechnology, and nutritional industries. In addition to his industrial focus, he remains a Registered Pharmacist. Dr. Gillespie enjoys mentoring drug development scientists and health professionals, leading workshops, and developing continuing education programs for pharmacy, nursing, and other medical professionals.

Kelly A. Crum PhD (c), MSN, RN, is a nursing education consultant serving schools on accreditation and curriculum matters. In addition, she currently serves as an international nursing education consultant, including being the expert nurse consultant for Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences. With 26 years of nursing education experience, she has held various nursing positions in both the clinical and academic setting. Her passion for curriculum and expertise in teaching are the foundation for endeavors of educating the educator. This passion is reflected in her writing and conference topics.
