About the Course:
An estimated 1.2 million people are living with the HIV/AIDS infection in the United States. The infection is a persistent public health problem in the U.S. and worldwide. In 2018, an estimated 36,400 new HIV infections were diagnosed. HIV is disproportionately present in certain racial and ethnic minorities and in gay and bisexual men (HIV.gov, 2020b). It is imperative that all healthcare professionals work to prevent HIV transmission and facilitate treatment among those infected. This course is designed to enhance healthcare personnel’s knowledge of the HIV/AIDS infection and provide information about the incidence of HIV/AIDS, prevalence, transmission, prevention, and treatments.

Shellie Hill, DNP, FNP-BC, currently serves full time as the FNP Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the MSN-NP program at Saint Louis University. She has been a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner for 19 years and an RN for 26 years. Most of her clinical practice has been in primary care and she also has experience in urgent care and cardiology. Clinically, she works in corporate healthcare clinics part time and she volunteers as an FNP in a clinic that manages underserved patients.
