About the Course
This course provides current information about wounds and wound care. Healthcare providers who work with patients with existing wounds, or with patients whose health conditions might make wounds more likely to occur, or who have a general desire to increase knowledge regarding the prevention, identification, and treatment of wounds will find this course useful.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify each phase of wound healing.
- Explain the healthcare provider’s responsibility in assessing and documenting wounds.
- Assess factors that may cause new wounds, or act as barriers to the normal healing process.
- Compare and contrast wounds of varying etiologies, both acute and chronic.
- Identify prevention interventions and appropriate treatment modalities of the wounds identified.
- Discuss legal implications for healthcare providers caring for patients with wounds.
About the Author
Stephani Hunt, MSN, RN, WCC, OMS, ONC, CFCN, received her master’s degree in nursing with an education focus from Framingham State University and her baccalaureate degree in nursing from Northeastern University, Boston. She is Wound Care Certified, an Ostomy Management Specialist, a Certified Foot Care Nurse, and is a Certified Orthopedic Nurse. Ms. Hunt was formerly a medical-surgical clinical healthcare provider educator and is currently working as the Inpatient Wound and Ostomy Specialist in Manchester, NH. Prior to her current position, she was actively involved as a wound care specialist in Boston. Her current workplace is a 300-bed level 2 trauma center. In her current role, she provides wound care education, consultation, and standardization for nursing throughout the institution.?

Chris Ireland, PT, DPT, OCS, received his DPT from the Medical College of Georgia in 2009 and in 2012 he received his ABPTS specialist certification in Orthopedics. After spending 8 years in private practice, Chris transitioned into academia and currently serves as a faculty member and the Director of Clinical Education for the DPT program at Faulkner University where his teaching focus is on orthopedics, movement science, and exercise physiology. Chris is currently working on getting his PhD in Health and Human Performance and is scheduled to complete his dissertation in Summer 2023.
