About the Course
This podcast series aims to help healthcare professionals understand the impact of criminal lawsuits against healthcare professionals who have made errors. The series will focus on the intersection of healthcare and the law. In doing so, we will review the legal definition of negligence, the impact of culture on hospital reporting systems, how organizations and individuals can support a healthy and safe work environment, and how we can make improvements to healthcare systems to help reduce errors while also protecting ourselves as healthcare professionals and providers from potential litigation.

About the Presenter
Margaret Carno PhD, MBA, MJ, RN, CPNP, D,ABSM, FNAP, FAAN, has over 25 years of experience in pediatric nursing. She has worked at the bedside in acute and critical care pediatrics and as a primary care PNP. She is nationally certified as a primary care PNP and maintains her RN and NP license in New York State. Dr. Carno has taught both clinical and didactic content in pediatric nursing and is a frequent guest lecturer related to pediatric issues at undergraduate and graduate levels. She has reviewed pediatrics and medical surgical nursing texts and has authored two textbooks.

James Stowe JD, is both a nurse and attorney obtaining his Nursing degree from Auburn University and Juris Doctor from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law. He practiced in the legal field concentrating in part on medical claims before returning to hospital administration. James is currently the Director of a large Emergency Department.

How to Receive Credit
  • Listen to the entire podcast which requires a 1.5-hour commitment of time.
