About the Course:
The purpose of this course is to identify common medical errors and causation in occupational therapy practice and identify best practices for the analysis, reduction, and prevention of such errors. Also to explain the Florida Statutes and AOTA Ethics Code and Minimum Standards to prevent medical errors in occupational therapy.

Learning Objectives:
Upon competition of this course, the learner should be able to:
  • Define the types of medical errors in four levels of health care.
  • Analyze root causes of medical errors and suggest strategies to reduce and prevent medical errors.
  • Explain the Florida Statutes and AOTA Ethics Code and Minimum Standards to prevent medical errors in occupational therapy.
  • Discuss documentation, communication, and supervision strategies to reduce and prevent medical errors.
  • Identify occupational therapy system risk management to prevent medical errors.
  • Explain pharmacological components and medication management related to medication errors.
