About the Course
In the hustle of addressing rehab challenges, the profound influence of sleep on patient recovery fades into the background. This is an oversight for missed opportunities to help our patients manage chronic conditions, pain, and the complexities of aging. Through this training, you’ll explore sleep through the lens of rehabilitation and learn to integrate sleep assessment and intervention into your treatment plan. Understand and share the gifts of “sleep hygiene” with your patients in any setting. This important seminar will redefine patient care through the power of sleep!
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Discuss the four stages of sleep and understand the role of circadian rhythms in sleep regulation.
- Review effective sleep hygiene practices and management strategies tailored to individual functional and occupational needs, including understanding the relationship between sleep and pain management.
- Discuss the relationship between the principles of good sleep with overall health improvement and learning enhancement.
- Explain sleep variations in specific disorders and the impact of sleep on their general health and participation in occupational activities.
- Describe appropriate sleep hygiene principles.
- Summarize the importance of sleep with athletes in terms of occupational and sports performance and recovery from injuries.
About the Presenter
Shelly Denes, PT, CFPS, C/NDT, CGCP is an expert in fall prevention and neuro-rehab with more than 25 years of experience treating patients with hemiplegia and neuromuscular disorders. She has been involved extensively with neuroprosthetic devices, lower extremity orthotics, and exoskeletons at the Rehab Institute of Michigan. She helped create the certifications of ”Fall Prevention Specialist” and “Geriatric Care Professional” with the Evergreen Certifications, has the certifications herself, and sits on their advisory boards.
