Participants will gain an understanding of the relationship between motor development and cognitive changes across infancy. Special consideration will be paid to lateralized motor and cognitive behaviors.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Investigate the typical course of development of fine and gross motor skills across infancy
  • Analyze factors that influence the development of cognitive skills across infancy
  • Demonstrate an example of the relationship between the concurrent development of cognitive and motor development
  • Analyze current research on infant lateralized behavior and explain how these research studies demonstrate the relationship between cognition and motor behavior
  • Inspect the research on infant handedness development and the relationship to cognitive development
