  • Describe the incidence, scope, and types of human trafficking in Florida.
  • List risk factors and warning signs for those who may become or who are victims of human trafficking.
  • Discuss intervention strategies to approach trafficking victims and determine treatment.
  • Identify reporting agencies and community resources for Florida human trafficking victims.
About the Author
Herica M. Torres, BSN, MSN, PhD candidate, is a naturalized citizen from Colombia, South America, who came to the United States to seek a professional nursing degree, after working many years as a respiratory therapist. She completed her BSN and master's in nursing degrees from the University of South Alabama. She is currently the simulation director at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing and is pursuing nursing doctoral studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Her career focus has been in global health nursing. In addition to her life experiences in Colombia, she has taken students to Peru for clinical field experiences and has attended multiple global health conferences.
