- Addiction Medicine: Part 1: Opioids and Other Scheduled Drug Classes 2Release Date: 4/27/22
About the Course
Addiction is a brain disorder that creates a large burden on both patients and society as a whole. Pharmacists play an important role in identifying and managing patients who are at risk of abusing or addicted to opioids, stimulants, and/or benzodiazepines. Medications can assist in quitting the use of certain substances, and pharmacists are in a key position to recommend appropriate therapy based on patient factors and comorbidities. Many patients will require more than one attempt at quitting, and pharmacy professionals can offer motivation and support during this difficult time. This course will offer insight into the impact of substance use disorders in the United States and help pharmacists identify patients suffering from these diseases. After completing this course, pharmacists will have an understanding of the available treatments for addiction to opioids, stimulants, and benzodiazepines.“This course will [partially] fulfill the DEA-mandated 8 hours of training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders for DEA licensees renewing on or after June 27, 2023.” - Human Trafficking Overview for Healthcare Professionals, 2nd Edition 4
Course release date: 10/15/2022
About the Course
Human trafficking is a global public health and human rights issue involving the exploitation of millions of people. Despite a high frequency of contact with trafficked individuals, there is a documented lack of education available to healthcare providers on the signs of human trafficking as well as a lack of protocols on how to care for trafficked individuals. This basic, introductory level course for healthcare professionals is an introduction to the complex crime of human trafficking, with a focus on sex and labor trafficking and the common symptoms and conditions that occur in trafficked persons. The course provides insights into the facts surrounding human trafficking and relevant health risks for the trafficked person. The course prepares healthcare professionals to become advocates for trafficked persons. Care of these individuals is as unique as the trafficked persons themselves, but research on the needs and common patterns of symptoms makes it possible to outline recommendations for the prevention of human trafficking and identification and care of this vulnerable population. Healthcare professionals who complete this course will be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of trafficked persons and identify the interventions needed to care for these individuals. Additionally, this course lists national resources that provide vital services to trafficked persons and makes recommendations for patient and staff safety when addressing these potentially volatile scenarios. - Management Of Drug Challenges: Generic vs Branded Drugs, 2nd Edition 1Course release date: 10/31/2022

- Pharmacy Law: Federal Regulations & HIPAA 4
Course release date: 8/9/2024
About the Course
Pharmacy is, by far, the most regulated profession in health care. Pharmacists have a professional obligation to stay current in their knowledge of laws and regulations and their implications to practice and patient care. Federal drug legislation has distinguished between prescription and over-the-counter medications and established that drugs must be both safe and effective, must be properly labeled, and must be manufactured and stored under sanitary conditions. In addition, the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) has expanded regulatory oversight and scheduling of medications to minimize diversion, misuse, and abuse. Federal legislation has been enacted to combat methamphetamine abuse, deter tampering with medications, ensure patient privacy, and mandate patient counseling. It is important to understand the scope of laws and regulations so that we can practice in accordance. Federal and state laws are meant to operate concurrently. If one law is more strict, that is the law we must follow as pharmacists.
