A Healthy Back: The Spinal Frontier, 1/5/2024

About the Course:
This course identifies some of the major causes of back pain, which affects over 80% of American adults at some time. Attendees will enhance their understanding of crucial structures related to the spine and gain a deeper knowledge of conditions which contribute to back issues, and some of the major pathologies which impede spinal health. The course arms the trainer/therapist with a comprehensive approach to assisting clients which will include research and experience-based techniques shown to be effective at restoring and preserving optimum function of the back.

Course Objectives:
  1. Recognize major terms of biomechanics
  2. Identify several factors known to substantially increase risk of back injury
  3. Identify the agonist, antagonist and synergists involved in common back movements.
  4. Select common back injuries and conditions
  5. Recognize impact and effects on athletic and daily activities.
  6. Identify popular assessment protocols used by therapists and trainers
  7. Identify exercises and techniques in the contemporary approach to promoting back health.
About the Author:
Jim began his health & wellness career as a Certified Personal Trainer in 1992 and was certified in massage therapy the following year. In his career he has worked with a spectrum of clients in community, athletic and rehabilitative settings. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a Corrective Exercise Specialist, holds a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science and a Post Graduate Certificate in Rehabilitative Science. Early in his education career, Jim created the curriculum used by the largest personal training school in the country. Jim has been a college instructor for 9 years and has constructed programs in Exercise Science and Massage Therapy for Salem and Cumberland County Colleges. He is an adjunct faculty member of Health and Exercise Science at Rowan University and recently completed a series of lectures for health professionals in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas and throughout Florida. Jim has presented at a numerous continuing education events for trainers, therapists, coaches and nurses since 2004.
