About the Course:
This course incorporates an algorithmic approach for efficient and effective rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Using current research, the session will include pre- and post-operative anterior cruciate ligament rehabilitation. Whether working with adolescents, elite athletes, weekend warriors, or worker-athletes, this session will help practitioners choose appropriate therapeutic interventions based on patient presentation and patient goals. Demonstrative videos are used to hone participant implementation of key skills and enable immediate integration into clinical practice. Insights are also provided into bracing, non-surgical interventions of ACL-deficient individuals, and ACL injury prevention.

Course Objectives: 
  • Select common mechanisms of ACL injuries.
  • Identify key preoperative rehabilitation goals.
  • Identify anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) grafts and post-operative precautions.
  • Select a comprehensive, evidence-based rehabilitation program for patients after ACL reconstruction.
  • Select key components of a transition to sport program.
  • Recognize recommended components of knee injury prevention programs.

About the Author: 
Betsy Myers received a Masters of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University in 1992 and a Doctorate of Health Sciences from the University of Indianapolis in 2013. She is an orthopedic certified specialist and an advanced credentialed clinical instructor. Dr. Myers received a citation of recognition and appreciation from the Oklahoma House of Representatives for her outstanding service as a physical therapist to the citizens of Oklahoma. Dr. Myers was the Teacher of the Year at the Krannert School of Physical Therapy, University of Indianapolis. She is also a certified wound specialist and a certified lymphedema therapist.

Dr. Myers is currently an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and director of the pro bono physical therapy clinic on campus. She continues to practice in outpatient orthopedics and lymphedema as well as act as a consultant for sporting teams and wound management. Dr. Myers has given numerous local, regional, and national presentations in orthopedics, lymphedema, and wound management. While her passion is for outpatient orthopedics, Dr. Myers has worked in a variety of clinical settings within regional hospital systems including: acute care, transitional care, in-patient rehabilitation, general out-patient care, sports medicine, aquatic therapy, and a diabetic food
