Healthcare providers will have knowledge of common behavior issues associated with neurological dysfunction and strategies to manage them.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify common behavior disorders post acquired brain injury.
  • Recognize the basic brain-behavior relationships in individuals with brain injury.
  • Select 2-3 interventions for each area of common behavior dysfunction.
  • Identify important aspects of the team approach for behavior management.
  • Locate 2 negative and 2 positive influences on behavior after neurological injury.
  • Select 3 suggestions for ensuring the mental health of treatment team members caring for patients with challenging behaviors

About the Author
Charity Shelton received her Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from Southwest Missouri State University in 1997. She has been working with adults and teens with neurological disorders for over 20 years and evaluates, treats communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in these patients. Charity has published several research articles related to evaluation/treatment of cognition in adults with traumatic brain injury and neurological diagnoses. She is a seasoned speaker who is invited to speak at seminars and conferences on neuro-related specialty topics, Charity is a Brain Injury Specialist through the Brain Injury Association of America. She has been very involved in advocacy at the local and state level for people with brain injuries and their families for many years.
