This course covers the principles and standards of ethical practice for physical therapists and assistants and references the Codes of Ethics and Conduct Guides of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT). Ethical issues related to professional practice are discussed. About the Course
This course is intended for physical therapy, occupational therapy and athletic training practitioners who address balance impairments and work to reduce falls in their patients and communities. This course defines balance and its components, describes how the various balance issues fall into these component categories and categorizes these impairments accordingly. It will outline how to assess balance and interpret the many varied assessment tools available. Taking this information, clinicians will see how to systematically approach balance rehabilitation, including how to prioritize needs, account for patient background and resources, and work towards long term falls reduction. Finally, this course discusses current guidelines for community level fall prevention strategies and how therapists can be more involved with this process.
- Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) to the Lower Quarter 2This course provides the clinician with an understanding of the treatment concepts, as well as specific techniques, in order to effectively incorporate Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilizations (IASTM) to common musculoskeletal disorders of the lower quarter. This course reviews the fascial system, including local and regional fascial tracks, as well as the pathophysiology of fascial dysfunction. The evidence supporting the biological effects of IASTM on soft tissue healing, as well as clinical outcome studies are summarized. The treatment principles and parameters of IASTM are presented, including soft tissue assessment and treatment strategies, indications, relative precautions and absolute contraindications, the role of complimentary treatment approaches, and the importance of immediate re-assessment. Other principles of IASTM, including recommended treatment time, appropriate degree of applied force, and proper sequencing of physical therapy interventions are discussed, based on scientific principles and expert opinion. Different tool options are addressed and the advantages and disadvantages of each are summarized. This course lecture is supplemented with over 40 video- based techniques. The videos emphasize correct patient positioning and execution of IASTM

About the Course
This course provides an evidence-based approach, combining IASTM, Cupping and Kinesiology Taping by focusing on how we can stimulate the Central Nervous System (CNS) to reduce pain and enhance mobility. This comprehensive treatment philosophy is movement-focused instead of treating the individual muscle, or the fascia, or the joints. The goal is to make overall movement of the affected body part more efficient to allow the body to heal and to become more resilient: “Move Better, Feel Better”
Clinicians will be able to take their Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) -techniques to the next level by incorporating movement. Additionally, learners can understand how Cupping Therapy (CT) is different than all other manual techniques, and how it supports healing, and recovery. Clinicians will learn how Kinesiology Taping (KT) is used to influence the fascia and underlying neural tissues to cause functional changes in both the local tissue as well as the Central Nervous System (CNS). KT is the ideal complement to soft tissue treatments like IASTM and Cupping.
Understanding how pain works and being able to educate your clients on how to manage their pain is critical to patient outcomes. This course uses principles of the BPS model and Pain Scienced Education as a roadmap to make your treatments even more effective.
