Get Your Foot in the Door: Foot and Ankle Rehabilitation

About the Course:
Using current research, this course provides insights into efficient and effective non-operative rehabilitation of the most common acute and chronic ankle/foot injuries. Additionally, it presents up-to-date information regarding post-operative rehabilitation following fracture stabilization, ligament reconstruction, tendon repair, and joint procedures of the ankle/foot. From adolescents to the elderly, and athletes to desk jockeys, this seminar will help practitioners choose appropriate therapeutic interventions based on patient presentation and patient goals. Video clips throughout the presentation hone participant implementation of key skills and enable immediate integration into clinical practice.

Course Objectives:

• Select common ankle/foot pathologies seen in outpatient rehabilitation.
• Identify key history and examination findings for ankle/foot pathologies.
• Recognize a comprehensive, evidence-based rehabilitation program for patients with ankle/foot pathologies.
• Select expected outcomes for patients with ankle/foot pathologies

About the Author:
Betsy Myers received a Masters of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University in 1992 and a Doctorate of Health Sciences from the University of Indianapolis in 2013. She is an orthopedic certified specialist and an advanced credentialed clinical instructor. Dr. Myers received a citation of recognition and appreciation from the Oklahoma House of Representatives for her outstanding service as a physical therapist to the citizens of Oklahoma. Dr. Myers was the Teacher of the Year at the Krannert School of Physical Therapy, University of Indianapolis. She is also a certified wound specialist and a certified lymphedema therapist. Dr. Myers is currently an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and director of the pro bono physical therapy clinic on campus. She continues to practice in outpatient orthopedics and lymphedema as well as act as a consultant for sporting teams and wound management. Dr. Myers has given numerous local, regional, and national presentations in orthopedics, lymphedema, and wound management. While her passion is for outpatient orthopedics, Dr. Myers has worked in a variety of clinical settings within regional hospital systems including: acute care, transitional care, in-patient rehabilitation, general out-patient care, sports medicine, aquatic therapy, and a diabetic foot clinic. She joined the outpatient physical therapy staff at Saint Francis Health System in Tulsa, OK in November, 2008. Dr. Myers is the author of Wound Management: Principles and Practice now in its third edition and two chapters in Integumentary Essentials: Preferred Physical Therapist Practice Patterns, SLACK Incorporated, 2007. Her current projects include functional performance testing in collegiate athletics, completing a half ironman, and finally riding her first century.
