- A Concise Guide to Lower Extremity Differential Diagnosis, Pathologies, and Special Tests 3Release Date: June 1, 2022
About the Course
With the introduction of direct access, privately-owned PT clinics, and telehealth, physical therapists play an important role in screening and referral of patients to the appropriate medical providers. The focus of this course is to differentiate between exclusive musculoskeletal origin or pain secondary to other systemic causes and to identify any red flags. An in-depth look at lower extremity differential diagnosis is covered to enable therapists to become knowledgeable about referral criteria to the physician, perform special tests, and be updated with the latest clinical practice guidelines of the hip, knee, and ankle-foot joints. This aids in providing effective timely treatment to the patient, identifying red flags, and thus, saving time and resources.
- An Overview of Hip and Knee Rehabilitation for the Physical Therapist, Updated 4Course release date: 6/1/2021
About the Course:
Due to the anatomy and importance of the essential functions of the hips and knees, severe pain in either one or both of these areas can have a direct adverse effect on everyday life and can severely reduce quality of life. There is a biomechanical reliance on each of these joints to function optimally during activities of daily living. Approximately 22% of the general population suffers from knee pain, and knee and hip pain are even more common in older people (Damen, 2019). Disruption in either one can result in aberrant movements of the other, and they rely on coordination and common nerve and muscular performance during ambulation. This course will focus on these two joints individually and as they relate to each other, and discuss various symptoms, treatments, and effective plans of treatment for optimum patient outcome. - Differential Diagnosis for Headaches and Cervical Spine Pain 3
Course release date: 7/10/2023
About the Course:
When evaluating head and neck pain in physical therapy, we must recognize that many conditions share similar signs and symptoms. This course presents information to help the evaluating clinician determine when a client’s symptoms may be the result of systemic or viscerogenic causes and when referral to another healthcare provider is indicated. In addition, this course presents a framework for differentiating and assigning the appropriate diagnosis for neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal conditions. - Differential Diagnosis for PT: Hematological, Cardiovascular, Immune and Digestive System Disorders 3
Course release date: 7/10/2023
About the Course
As the profession of Physical Therapy has progressed, the importance of differential diagnosis and medical screening has increased, especially with the mandate of autonomous practice. This seminar will give the clinician the ability to screen the multiple body organ systems for diseases and syndromes that are not of musculoskeletal origin. The seminar further addresses effective mechanisms that result in client referrals to appropriate health care practitioners. Through lectures and case studies, the therapist will be able to determine the best course of action with a patient utilizing the best available assessment tools and measures and evidence-based practice to determine diagnosis, need for referral, or method of treatment.
- Disorders of the Spine: An Evidence Based Approach to Detect Serious Spinal Pathology 5Course Release Date June 1, 2022
About the Course
Delaying proper treatment due to poor diagnosis is detrimental to a patient's well-being. The sooner a patient with a non-musculoskeletal issue is referred to the correct practitioner, the sooner the patient will receive the best and most appropriate treatment. This dynamic course explores serious pathologies and disorders of the spine. Demonstration of appropriate physical tests and scans for the spine are presented, along with the latest evidence in screening and physical testing. Explore evaluative processes to improve awareness of differential diagnosis and test results. Participants will walk away with thorough knowledge of appropriate treatments and screenings for patients with musculoskeletal issues of the trunk and spine. - Ethical Practice In Physical Therapy 3About the Course:
This course covers the principles and standards of ethical practice for physical therapists and assistants and references the Codes of Ethics and Conduct Guides of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT). Ethical issues related to professional practice are discussed. Steps to identify potential conflicts and strategies for decision making to avoid and resolve ethical issues are included. - Introduction to Wheelchair Seating and Positioning 5Course release date: 4/17/2021
About the Course:
This course, designed to provide the healthcare practitioner with a broad overview of the assessment and provision of wheelchair seating, is written at a basic to intermediate-level for the occupational and physical therapist who have little or no experience in this specialty practice area. Many people require the use of a wheelchair for dependent or independent mobility, and each wheelchair provides some form of seating. Wheelchair seating directly affects a client’s position, which in turn affects function for all of that person’s daily tasks. It is essential that occupational therapy practitioners be able to competently participate as members of the interprofessional team in determining the optimal seating and wheeled mobility interventions for a particular client. Common diagnoses for a client using a wheelchair include cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and muscular dystrophies. - Osteoarthritis of the Hip: Rehabilitation and Treatment Strategies, 2nd Edition 4Course release date: 4/6/2020
About the Course:
This intermediate-level course is designed to provide physical therapists and physical therapist assistants with a comprehensive overview of current evidence-based treatment strategies for patients with Osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip joint. The course reviews the pathomechanical changes that are associated with hip OA and discusses nonmodifiable and modifiable risk factors.
