Course Objective

This course is designed to increase physician knowledge and skills regarding Tennessee guideline-recommended principles of pain management. An overview of controlled substances and addiction complications, with an emphasis on the Tennessee Chronic Pain Guidelines will be presented.
 

Learning Outcomes         
Completion of this course will better enable the course participant to:

  • Describe the different Schedules of Controlled Substances.
  • Understand terminology regarding medications in the different groups, their uses and risks.
  • Discuss recommended guidelines for use of opioids in the treatment of chronic, non-malignant pain.
  • Describe factors that contribute to risk of substance use disorder.

  • After completion of the course, complete the final examination. A passing grade of 70% is required. Exam questions link content to learning outcomes as a method to enhance individualized learning and material retention.
