Cleveland Clinic Submits Plans for London Location

Cleveland Clinic has submitted plans to Westminster City Council to operate a 205-bed private healthcare facility near Buckingham Palace, according to a press release.

If approved, the new development at 33 Grosvenor Place would be Cleveland Clinic’s first facility in London, adding another international location to a health system that includes a 165-acre main campus near downtown Cleveland, nine regional hospitals throughout Northeast Ohio, and facilities in Weston, Fla.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Toronto, Canada; and Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The application being submitted by the Cleveland Clinic will include 205 beds and eight operating rooms in the six-story, 198,000-square-foot office building in central London. The operation also will provide new jobs and employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled employees and new training program for physicians in the London area, the press release announced.

Specialty services will focus on general surgery, cardiology and neurology. The facility will not include an emergency department.

The application has been submitted following extensive engagement with the local community, including a public exhibition of the proposals held over three days. Cleveland Clinic remains committed to continuing to listen closely to the views of local residents, planning officers and members of the local authority to ensure that its plans are appropriate to the local community, the press release notes.

“London offers a unique combination of world-leading medical research and some of the best and most respected healthcare professionals,” said Toby Cosgrove, MD, presidnet and CEO of Cleveland Clinic. “Our goal is to complement – not compete – with medical offerings available in the London market.”

Cleveland Clinic is a nonprofit multispecialty academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.  The Cleveland Clinic health system includes a 165-acre main campus near downtown Cleveland, nine community hospitals, more than 150 northern Ohio outpatient locations – including 18 full-service family health centers and three health and wellness centers.
