The College of American Pathologists (CAP) is offering a free Webinar titled “Personalized Medicine: Framing the Issues for Pathology” April 23 from 11 am to 12 pm CDT. Debra Leonard, MD, PhD, FCAP, co-chair of the CAP Personalized Healthcare committee, is the speaker.
Talk of personalized medicine is everywhere: in the newspapers, in the scientific and medical literature and on the Internet. Companies offer “recreational genomics” testing directly to consumers. But personalized healthcare is not discussed much in the doctor’s office or in pathology laboratories, CAP officials say.
The talk will begin with a brief overview of the healthcare landscape from a genomic perspective. It will define and explain key components of personalized healthcare as well as personalized medicine in the context of the U.S. healthcare system. Provocative ideas about the role of pathologists will be discussed in as well as implications for the future practice of medicine. The Webinar is being held on National DNA Day.
