Giving it Their All at The Young Athletes Summer Games

This PT-led program for children age 2-7 has become a global phenomenon

On the weekend of June 13-14, 2015, hundreds of young children gathered at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J. for two days of fun and sports at the Special Olympics Young Athletes summer games. There was baseball, long jump, softball throw, “turbo jav,” bocce, and the Future Stars Race.

But even louder than all the bustling activity was the laughing of children who were doing things that neither they, nor their parents, ever thought possible.

Special Olympics Young Athletes is a unique sport and play program for athletes ages 2 through 7. What started as a project by Ellen Anderson, PT, PhD, GCS, has grown into a global phenomenon reaching 120 countries worldwide, and growing.
