The Spiro PD enables patients with lung diseases–those with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis (CF) and lung transplants–to easily and accurately monitor their lung function any time and anywhere.
Spiro PD differs from peak flow meters by allowing users to track personal lung function trends, create personal profiles and easily compare his or her lung function against what should be expected.
Whether patients are at home, work or school, at play or travelling, Spiro PD allows them to easily perform tests, view trends, manage their medications, set alarms reminding them to take medicine, test their lung function, do breathing exercises and quickly upload data to share with their doctor.
Spiro PD is cleared to market by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for use by a patient to test lung function in children, adolescents and adults. It is a single-patient use device.
Spiro PD is also certified with the CE mark for the European Union (EU) market. Spiro PD meets American Thoracic Society (ATS) and European Respiratory Society (ERS) standards.
Spiro PD:
- Tracks lung function progress and trends to help patients anticipate and prevent exacerbations and asthma attacks, and reduce expensive emergency room trips;
- Helps doctors evaluate if the patient’s medication is working and dosage is correct;
- Allows patients to view their lung health trends in a simple graph; color-coding lets them know at a glance the severity of their condition and translate the result into a clear action plan;
- Enhances medication adherence by allowing patients to set an alarm to remind them to take their medications; proprietary software provides a time stamp to show doctors that patients have been following their therapy;
- Allows patients to send their lung function data to their doctor between office visits to inform them of lung health and need for treatment changes.
Spiro PD is small, lightweight (only 9 ounces), portable and affordable. The personal device is easy to use. Intuitive software with color touchscreen, audible voice, onscreen instructions and progressing motivation lights coach patients by providing step-by-step instructions to perform the spirometry test completely and accurately. The squeezable handles encourage patients to blow harder during test.
