About the Course:
This is an intermediate-level course geared toward respiratory therapists and all healthcare professionals who care for individuals with asthma. 
 
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
  • Define asthma and discuss its incidence and prevalence rates.
  • Describe the pathological changes characteristic of asthma.
  • Identify common clinical presentation of asthmatic exacerbation.
  • Explain the mechanisms of common pharmacological agents used in the treatment of asthma.
  • Discuss the criteria for hospital admission and indications and guidelines for mechanical ventilation in the asthmatic exacerbations.
About the Author: 
Traci Marin, PhD, MPH, RRT, RPGST
 is an associate research professor and program director in the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences, Schools of Allied Health and Medicine, at Loma Linda University and program director of doctoral studies in health sciences at Trident University. She is also an adjunct researcher and advisor in  the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, as well as the founder of Tranquility Community Health in Colton, California. Dr. Marin received a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Riverside; an MPH in epidemiology and biostatistics from Loma Linda University; a bachelor’s degree in emergency medical care from Loma Linda University; and an associate’s degree in respiratory therapy from Victor Valley College.
