About the Course
This course serves as an overview of the most common basic non-life-threatening rhythms. It is intended for nurses and other health care professionals who have an understanding of cardiac structure and function, the basic features of the cardiac cycle, and ECG waveforms.
Learning Objectives
• Upon completion of this course, the learner should be able to do the following:
• Describe the information attainable from the electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor.
• Discuss the healthcare professional’s role in rhythm monitoring.
• Recognize normal rhythms, paced rhythms, and basic dysrhythmias on the ECG monitor.
• Discuss the mechanisms of basic dysrhythmias.
• List appropriate healthcare interventions based on accurate identification of common dysrhythmias.
About the Author
Heather O'Connell is a Registered Respiratory therapist with 5+ years of teaching experience. She has been in practice since August 2007, and has worked in various fields of respiratory care including critical care, labor and delivery, the emergency department and other specialty areas. In 2106, She moved into full time teaching as a professor a ta local college teaching various courses in the respiratory care program. These courses include assessment, therapeutics, pre-clinic courses, and all clinic courses that encompass various aspects of the respiratory care field. She also began teaching bachelor’s level courses in healthcare administration and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
