About the Course
The purpose of this intermediate-level course is to provide advanced respiratory care practitioners with up-to-date continuing education on the pathophysiologic processes, clinical findings, diagnoses, etiologic factors, and current trends in the management of pulmonary edema.

About the Author
Lauren Driscoll, MHPE, RRT, RRT-ACCS, RRT-NPS, is an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Kansas Medical Center and a respiratory therapist at the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas. She earned her master of Health Professions Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine; her bachelor’s degree at Midland University; and her RRT at CHI Health. Ms. Driscoll serves as American Heart Association Training Center Faculty for BLS, ACLS, and PALS, as well a Trustee for the Kansas Respiratory Care Society.
How to Receive Credit

- Describe the basic anatomy and physiology of the alveolar/capillary membrane and fluid transudation.
- Describe basic pathophysiological mechanisms that cause pulmonary edema.
- Identify specific examples of disorders leading to noncardiogenic pulmonary edema, their common clinical presentation, and possible interventions.
- Discuss alterations in basic heart physiology that may cause cardiogenic pulmonary edema.
- Summarize the diagnostic studies used to confirm pulmonary edema and current trends in treatment strategies.
