About the Course
Discuss numerous ways workplace violence can occur; types of workplace violence, including incivility; how to identify and communicate about troubling behaviors; steps to take in the event of an intense, violent situation; the prevalence of workplace violence and bullying among healthcare professionals; their effect on employee well-being as well as their long-term effects; raise awareness of workplace violence and workplace bullying in an effort to create a healthier, happier, more satisfying, positive workplace for all employees and patients; decrease the risk of harm to patients; and improve quality outcomes.

- Identify the principal types of workplace violence.
- Discuss the incidence and prevalence of workplace violence.
- Recognize the behavioral characteristics associated with each stage of crisis development.
- Apply interventions appropriate to an individual's stage of crisis development to prevent them from escalating.
- Examine key measures for protecting facility occupants during active shooter events.

About the Author
Palma D. Iacovitti, DNP, MBA, RN, originally from South Jersey, has been a local to Jacksonville, Florida, for approximately 25 years. She earned her bachelors in nursing, an MBA, and in 2019 a doctorate in nursing practice. Her clinical nursing experience over the past 25 years consists of pediatrics, emergency medicine, gastroenterology and gynecology, surgical oncology, and home health. Palma is a strong advocate against workplace violence and incivility. She has taught this subject to nurses and developed a plan to create greater awareness of bullying and how to decrease its prevalence. Palma has also published articles around teamwork and collaboration as well as authored a chapter on workplace violence and incivility. She has always had a passion for helping people and advocating for those that can’t do it themselves. This ambition and desire have led her to a career in nursing and leadership-type roles. Palma is a member of the Florida Nurse’s Association. Outside of work, she likes to volunteer her time toward great causes that impact the community.
