Here's what you need to renew your Nevada Nursing license

The information below is a summary of the minimum requirements set forth by the Nevada State Board of Nursing. For a more detailed requirements breakdown, please see the board's site.

Nevada Nursing: APN (Continuing Education)

Online Info

Licenses issued within 2 years are not required to complete CE contact hours for 1st time renewal.  However, the 1-time 4 CE contact hours for Bioterrorism is required.

Mandatory Subjects:
Bioterrorism: Responding to Acts of Terrorism – 4 contact hours; 1-time requirement.

Role or specialty - 15 contact hours every 2-year renewal period.


Effective Janurary 1, 2022, the Nurse Practice Act requires a 2-hour cultural competency course every renewal cycle. The Nurse Practice Act requires a one-time 4-hour bioterrorism course to be completed.


The 2017 Nevada legislature passed Assembly Bill 105. Beginning July 1, 2017 an advanced practice registered nurse is required to complete within 2 years after initial licensure and every 4 years thereafter, at least 2 hours of training relating to evidence-based suicide prevention and awareness. The bill’s requirements are incorporated into the Nevada Nurse Practice Act NRS 632.343.


The 2017 Nevada legislature also passed Assembly Bill 474. Beginning January 1, 2018 an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who is registered to dispense controlled substances pursuant to NRS 453.231 is required to complete at least 2 hours of training relating specifically to the misuse and abuse of controlled substances, the prescribing of opioids or addiction during each period of licensure. The bill’s requirements are incorporated into the Nevada Nurse Practice Act NRS 632.2375.
