Course Overview
This course provides evidence-based information related to the detection, identification, etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic tools used for all levels of traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Describe the prevalence and etiology of TBI in the United States across the lifespan.
- Distinguish the different types of TBIs and related pathophysiology.
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of TBI.
- Summarize the care of patients with TBIs across the care continuum.
- Describe the current understanding of sequelae of TBI, both short- and long-term.
About the Author/Presenter
Dr. Margaret-Ann Carno, PhD, MBA, MJ, PNP-AC/PC, CNE, ATSF, FAAN has extensive practice experience in the care of patients with traumatic brain injuries. She has over 20 years of experience in critical care, primarily pediatrics and adolescents. She is currently a faculty member at the University of Rochester’s School of Nursing, where she teaches physiology and pathophysiology. She has also coauthored a nursing medical-surgical textbook and has edited a number of nursing medical-surgical textbooks.
