About the Course:
The purpose of this course is to provide useful, pragmatic information to rehabilitation therapists to facilitate successful rehabilitation for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Too often, those with dementia are excluded from rehabilitation opportunities based on the assumption that they will not benefit, or they are given a brief trial of rehabilitation that does not take into consideration the special needs of this population and, as a result, they do not make gains. This course will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease and its medical management, practical information on optimal interactions with individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease, research findings related to motor learning in this population, existing evidence on rehabilitation with individuals with dementia, and strategies to facilitate successful outcomes.
An Overview of Hip and Knee Rehabilitation for the Physical Therapist, Updated
An Overview of Hip and Knee Rehabilitation for the Physical Therapist, Updated

About the Course:
Due to the anatomy and importance of the essential functions of the hips and knees, severe pain in either one or both of these areas can have a direct adverse effect on everyday life and can severely reduce quality of life. There is a biomechanical reliance on each of these joints to function optimally during activities of daily living. Approximately 22% of the general population suffers from knee pain, and knee and hip pain are even more common in older people (Damen, 2019). Disruption in either one can result in aberrant movements of the other, and they rely on coordination and common nerve and muscular performance during ambulation. This course will focus on these two joints individually and as they relate to each other, and discuss various symptoms, treatments, and effective plans of treatment for optimum patient outcome.

Cerebral Palsy Across the Lifespan, 2nd ed
Cerebral Palsy Across the Lifespan, 2nd ed

About the Course:
This intermediate-level course provides updated, evidence- based information for physical therapists and occupational therapists who work with individuals who have cerebral palsy. This course will be particularly helpful to clinicians who have not recently reviewed the literature related to cerebral palsy and to those who do not frequently provide physical therapy services for this population. Physical therapists who received their training before the profession’s move to doctoral-level training may also find this course helpful because of its focus on the clinical reasoning skills that are necessary when patients can directly access physical therapists without physician referral. Most physical therapists and occupational therapists in pediatric clinical settings will encounter individuals with cerebral palsy. Because pediatric and school-based clinical services typically end by the age of 21, physical therapists and occupational therapists who provide treatment in adult therapy settings also need to be competent in treating this rapidly growing segment of the adult population. Physical and occupational therapists who work with this heterogeneous population need to be aware of the many factors critical to clinical decision making. This course will address prevalence, etiology, diagnosis, classification, examination, evaluation, prognosis, interventions, and outcomes for individuals with cerebral palsy across the lifespan. Because the body of literature related to this diagnosis is extensive, this course will provide an overview of the most salient current issues that impact the clinical decisions and care provided by physical therapists and occupational therapists. Clinicians who desire a more in-depth understanding of cerebral palsy are encouraged to pursue applicable resources and references more extensively.

Evaluating and Treating COPD: Because if You Can Not Breathe, Nothing Else Matters

In the geriatric population, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a very prevalent disease. Patients with COPD often require frequent hospitalizations and require medical and rehabilitation across the continuum of care – acute care, out-patient, skilled nursing facilities, and home health. Due to the prevalence of this condition, all healthcare professionals must play an active role, including rehabilitation professionals. The role for rehabilitation includes the acute treatment of the disease, patient/family education, and long-term management. This course discusses at an in-depth level the pathophysiology, diagnostic tools, assessment techniques and treatment of COPD. This information will be applied in a case study at the end of the course to ensure that participants gain practical application skills of the material presented. Evidenced Based Principles and Applications of Stretching and Self-Myofascial Release
Evidenced Based Principles and Applications of Stretching and Self-Myofascial Release

The fascial system is vital not just to our structural health, but to the health of the body as a whole. The fascial system surrounds, supports, and integrates our muscles, organs, and even our cells. It is a multi-dimensional system, essential to the flow of information and vital energy— prana, or chi—in the body. Adding myofascial release to your yoga practice helps remove restrictions and trauma in this vital system. The myofascial system gets limited and dehydrated over time, as trauma, inflammation or unresolved emotional holdings get lodged in the system. Myofascial restrictions hold many people back in their yoga practice. This course instructs the therapist in the principles of fascia, mechanics of Myofascial release, and Anatomy Trains. Therapists will gain a deeper understanding of the myofascial system, its importance for the body, and how myofascial restrictions or trigger points get lodged in the body over time. Through this course, therapists will learn how to integrate the knowledge of Myofascial release, Myofascial unwinding, and Anatomy Trains into a therapeutic yoga practice to address common muscle imbalances.

Manual Therapy and Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Frozen Shoulder
Manual Therapy and Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Frozen Shoulder

Shoulder pain is prevalent in between 2.4% and 26% of the population, resulting in significant financial burden, pain and loss of quality of life. According to the APTA’s Clinical Practice Guidelines, mobilization and exercise are important components of shoulder pain management. Too often clinicians are ready to perform joint manipulation/mobilization with disregard for the soft tissue component of the stiff shoulder. Myofascial restrictions may limit shoulder mobility and function and must be addressed as part of a plan of care. When fascia becomes scarred from inflammation, injury, postural habits or disease, its tension adversely impacts functional mobility and physical activity.
This video course addresses specific manual and movement interventions to address mobility deficits, improve circulation, and decrease pain in people presenting with shoulder pain and mobility deficits to achieve improved functional outcomes.

Wound Care Documentation Across Multidisciplinary Teams

About the Course
Providing excellent wound care services depends on documentation that clearly illustrates assessment and medical necessity, skilled interventions performed, and outcomes achieved. Complete and thorough wound care documentation is the critical foundation for successful reimbursement of services. If this is achieved, the client, the clinician, and the regulatory agency all benefit. When it comes to regulatory audits and denials of reimbursement, being proactive is the key. This video course addresses pertinent topics such as components of resident-centered collaboration between therapy and nursing in wound care, common errors, key elements in wound care documentation to prevent denials, and principles of effective documentation for nursing and therapy to support skilled wound care services.
