Return to Sport: Running Injuries in Student-Athletes
About the Course
This course focuses on commonly presented running injuries in student-athletes and how to effectively treat those injuries for return to sport. The course is designed for athletic trainers and allied health professionals who work in sport settings, particularly with youth and student-aged athletes.
Learning Outcomes
- Discuss anatomic and physiologic differences between youth and adult runners.
- Describe common running-related injuries in youth athletes.
- Discuss key history and examination findings for running-related injuries.
- Develop a comprehensive, evidence-based rehabilitation program for youth athletes involved in running sports.
- State injury prevention strategies for youth athletes in running sports.
About the Author
Betsy Myers received a Masters of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University and both a Masters and a Doctorate of Health Sciences from the University of Indianapolis. She is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a certified running coach, and certified in dry needling. Betsy is also an advanced credentialed clinical instructor, a certified lymphedema therapist, and earned her wound specialist certification. She is the author of Wound Management: Principles and Practice and co-author of Management of Common Orthopedic Disorders: Physical Therapy Principles and Methods 5th Ed.
