Bite Back: Unpacking Animal Bite Infections 1
Course release date: 11/4/2025
Course Overview
The course will review common causes of animal bite infections in the U.S. It will describe common animals whose bites lead to infections, and the risk of infection with each type of animal bite. This course is relevant for a variety of people in the healthcare field. Primary care and emergency providers may encounter patients who present with animal bites and need to be prepared to develop a treatment plan. Not all animal bites have the same risk of leading to an infection. The microbiology varies based on the commensal organisms in the mouths of different animals. Providers will need to be aware of the initial management of these bites, including antimicrobial therapy and post-exposure vaccinations. Rapid identification of risk and needs is essential for proper management. Providers should be up to date on treatment and vaccine recommendations to provide the best care to patients. - Cardiac Rehabilitation: The Nurses' Integral Role in Heart Recovery 1

Analgesic Overdose 5
5
Course release date: 7/1/2024
Course Overview
Over-the-counter analgesics acetaminophen, aspirin, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen are very popular. Unfortunately, they are also the cause of thousands of intentional and unintentional overdoses each year. Because they are inexpensive and widely available, these agents are often used with the intent to cause self-harm. With the proper treatment, patients who have taken a toxic dose of one of these medications should recover without sequelae, and the treatment of deliberate overdoses of acetaminophen, aspirin, and the other NSAIDs is best described in one word: simple. However, poison center experience indicates a knowledge gap in what many nurses know and what they need to know to deliver good care in these situations. These knowledge gaps can and do cause errors in treatment, some minor and some serious. This course will provide nurses with comprehensive and up-to-date information about acetaminophen, aspirin, and NSAID poisoning. Assessment and treatment will be thoroughly explained, and common management errors (what they are and how to avoid them) will be discussed. This knowledge will allow nurses to provide the best possible care in cases of analgesic overdose, improving patient outcomes and avoiding potentially damaging long-term effects. - School Nurse Emergencies 1

Missed Maternal Red Flags: Critical Postpartum Emergencies in the First Year 1
Course release date: 1/23/2026
Course Overview
The postpartum year is one of the most vulnerable periods in maternal health, yet many life-threatening complications emerge only after the patient has left the hospital. This episode explores the subtle and overt red flags of postpartum emergencies including delayed preeclampsia, cardiomyopathy, venous thromboembolism, infection, and mental health crises. Listeners will learn how nurses can strengthen assessment skills, reinforce effective discharge education, and support patients who may not recognize when their symptoms require urgent care. The discussion highlights practical approaches for improving safety, communication, and continuity of care during the first year after birth. -
Alternative Modalities for Mental Health 1.5
Course release date: 9/1/2024
Course Overview
Mental healthcare is in higher demand than ever before. An overwhelming 90% of the public believes there is currently a mental health crisis in the US, with major concerns including the opioid epidemic, COVID-19 pandemic, anxiety stemming from current events, loneliness, and mental health issues in children, teens, and adults. Despite the great demand, more than half of the public report being unable to access the mental health services they need. This issue is particularly acute for minorities, low-income adults, and uninsured adults over 65 years old. Furthermore, cost remains a significant barrier to obtaining mental health services, with lower coverage compared to physical healthcare services and difficulties in finding providers who accept health insurance as major challenges. In light of these obstacles, many Americans are turning to alternative modalities for mental healthcare. -
