The Impact of Lifestyle Interventions on Chronic Disease: An Interprofessional Approach
Course Overview
Chronic disease remains the defining clinical and public health challenge of the 21st century. In the United States, chronic conditions account for the overwhelming majority of morbidity, disability, mortality, and healthcare spending. The purpose of this course is to provide an evidence-based, clinically practical, interprofessional review of lifestyle interventions as foundational therapies for prevention and management of chronic diseases, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Evaluate the current evidence supporting nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress reduction, and behavior change interventions in chronic disease prevention and treatment.
- Apply interprofessional lifestyle medicine strategies to common chronic diseases in outpatient and inpatient practice.
- Integrate functional, holistic, and person-centered approaches with conventional medical management.
- Identify barriers to adherence, health equity considerations, and practical implementation tools for diverse patient populations.
About the Author/Presenter
Dalia Saha, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine and serves as a hospice medical director. Dr. Saha received her training at Brown University and has since dedicated her career to medical education, teaching, and medical writing. With a passion for imparting knowledge and enhancing patient care, Dr. Saha brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role, ensuring excellence in both clinical practice and educational endeavors.
