OT Month Celebrated Despite Extraordinary Circumstances

AOTA offering ways to celebrate during social distancing

Following the cancellation of the association’s Annual Conference at the end of March, AOTA officials knew this year’s National OT Month wouldn’t be like any other. But the Association has compiled a list of ways occupational therapists and their patients and  colleagues can celebrate despite the need to keep a healthy social distance right now.

“As an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, you are part of a vitally important profession that helps people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities,” reads the Association’s website. “Your holistic and customized approach to evaluations, interventions, and outcomes help a child with disabilities participate in school and in social situations, assist a person recovering from injuries to regain skills, aid an older adult to stay as independent as possible, and offer the specialized support and services to people of all ages and in all circumstances that only occupational therapy can provide.”

To that end, the organization has offered numerous means of celebration including “30 Ways to Celebrate OT Month Via Social Media,” and the “Top 10 Ways to Promote Occupational Therapy Online.”

Occupational therapists are also encouraged to celebrate the profession with a new t-shirt, coffee mug or other items with the motto “Occupational Therapy: EMBRACING CHALLENGES, ENHANCING LIVES.” OT Month is sponsored by Life Care Centers of America.
