License Cycle Extended to Three Years
Michigan Regulation 4680 (effective March 5, 2026) extends the PT/PTA license renewal cycle from 2 years to 3 years and increases the professional development requirement (PDR) accordingly. Physical therapists must now complete not less than 36 PDR credits in the 3 years preceding license expiration.

Pain and Symptom Management
Michigan PTs must complete 1 hour of pain and symptom management every renewal period.

Implicit Bias Training
Michigan PTs must complete 2 hours of implicit bias training every renewal period, in addition to the standard continuing education requirement.

One-Time Requirements
Identification of Human Trafficking
Michigan PTs must complete 1 hour of training on the identification of human trafficking as a one-time initial licensure requirement.
