Certificate to Dispense Medication Holders
MDs and DOs who hold a Certificate to Dispense Medication must complete 10 hours of Category 1 CME in pharmacology and/or dispensing of medication every renewal period.

Course option: Developing a Safe Opioid Treatment Plan for Managing Chronic Pain

Pain Management Practice Owners
MDs and DOs who own a pain management practice must ensure that 30 of their 40 required Category 1 hours emphasize pain management, addiction, or the prescribing of opiates every renewal period.

Course option: Effective Management of Acute and Chronic Pain with Opioid Analgesics, 2nd Edition

Medical Cannabis Certifying Practitioners
Practitioners certifying patients for medical cannabis must complete MSDH-approved CE on the use of medical cannabis: 8 hours initially and 5 additional hours every renewal period.

DEA-registered practitioners, except those who are solely veterinarians, must complete an 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This applies one time to DEA registrations or renewals submitted on or after June 27, 2023.

Mississippi PAs must complete 100 hours of CME every renewal period (all hours may be Category 1 as defined by the ACCME, AAPA, AMA, or AOA), or provide proof of current NCCPA certification.

Practice-Based or Conditional Requirements

Controlled Substances Prescribing PAs
PAs authorized to prescribe controlled substances must show proof of 100 hours of CME including 50 hours Category 1, 5 of which must relate to prescribing of medications with emphasis on controlled substances every renewal period.
