End-of-Life Care
New Jersey MDs and DOs must complete 2 hours in topics related to end-of-life care every 2 years.

Course option: Assessment and Management of Pain at the End of Life

Prescription Opioid Drugs
MDs, DOs, and PAs must complete 1 hour on topics concerning prescription opioid drugs, including responsible prescribing practices, alternatives to opioids, and the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion, every 2 years.

Course option: Responsible and Effective Opioid Prescribing

Sexual Misconduct Prevention
Commencing with the biennial renewal period beginning July 1, 2025, MDs and DOs must complete 2 hours of Category I CME on sexual misconduct prevention every 2 years, covering topics including informed consent for sensitive procedures, interacting with patients who have been sexually abused or harassed, bystander intervention and reporting duties, and identifying human trafficking.

One-Time Requirements

Cultural Competency
MDs and DOs must complete 6 hours in cultural competency, one time.

Practice-Based or Conditional Requirements

Optional Menopause CE
MDs and DOs may apply up to 3 optional credits of CE on menopause and perimenopause topics toward their existing biennial CE total; these credits are optional and do not add to the overall hour requirement.

Office-Based Anesthesia Privileges
Physicians who administer or monitor general anesthesia in an office setting must complete at least 60 hours of Category 1 CME in anesthesia every 3 years; those administering regional anesthesia must complete at least 8 hours; those administering conscious sedation must complete at least 8 hours of Category 1 or 2 CME in anesthesia services, including moderate sedation, every 3 years.

Perinatal Care Providers
Physicians and PAs who provide perinatal care and treatment to pregnant persons must complete 1 credit on implicit and explicit bias every renewal period.

DEA-registered practitioners, except those who are solely veterinarians, must complete an 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This applies one time to DEA registrations or renewals submitted on or after June 27, 2023.
