Management of Anxiety and Depression
Course Overview
This course provides an evidence-based practice approach to the management of anxiety and depression that the healthcare professional can be called upon to treat. It will include statistical data, the etiology of anxiety and depression, symptoms and clinical presentations across the lifespan for assessment, as well as treatment and management approaches. This course is designed for all healthcare professionals who are involved in providing care for individuals experiencing anxiety and depression.
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Outline the differences in stress and anxiety to include diagnostic criteria.
- Evaluate the different levels of anxiety in patients. Categorize anxiety presentations across the lifespan.
- Translate responses from anxiety and depression screening tools to support the clinical assessment.
- Apply evidence-based healthcare interventions for patients with anxiety and depression.
- Distinguish depression and suicide links for safety planning.
About the Author/Presenter
Mary Perry, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner across the lifespan and holds certification as a clinical nurse leader. Her diverse background includes medical-surgical nursing, aerospace medicine, military aeromedical evacuation, and mental health care. She earned her BSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2006, followed by an MSN in 2016 and a postgraduate certificate in 2020 from the University of Alabama. Mary has served as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force; worked as a contract nurse with the U.S. Navy in Okinawa, Japan; and taught as an adjunct professor at Troy University and Kennesaw State University.
