Course Overview
This course aims to introduce foundational concepts in mental health. It explores the history and epidemiology of mental illness, legal and ethical considerations, mental health assessments, and essential therapeutic skills utilized in mental health nursing.

About the Author/Presenter
Mary Perry is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner across the lifespan and holds certification as a clinical nurse leader. Her diverse background includes medical-surgical nursing, aerospace medicine, military aeromedical evacuation, and mental healthcare. She earned her BSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2006, followed by an MSN in 2016 and a postgraduate certificate in 2020 from the University of Alabama. Mary has served as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force; worked as a contract nurse with the U.S. Navy in Okinawa, Japan; and taught as an adjunct professor at Troy University and Kennesaw State University.
