A Mindful CAM
Course Overview
This course is designed to satisfy two hours of continuing education requirement, EH2, for HOA managers. It is also available for non-HOA managers who wish to use the two hours toward additional instruction (ELE). It explores issues related to serving a community association as a CAM. It delves into some of the areas in the community association law, specifically F.S. 720, as it relates to topics that a CAM must be mindful of, aside from recordkeeping.
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Understand that there are many areas that a CAM must concern themselves with aside from recordkeeping.
- Recognize the importance of the business relationship with boards, committees, and members.
- Understand how a CAM can provide guidance in various association duties and processes to help achieve the association’s goals.
- Understand provisions related to meetings, elections, and fraudulent voting activities.
- Learn to recognize when the practices of a community association conflict with statutory members’ rights.
About the Author/Presenter
Laura Matijak received her community association manager license in 2001 and has CAM experience that spans over twenty years. Laura earned her PCAM designation from Community Association Institute in 2007 and was a of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
Before attaining her CAM license, she worked as an independent consultant with HOA developers. After receiving her license, she was senior manager with a Palm Beach County CAM Firm, providing supervision and training to other CAMs.
Laura’s educational background is in organizational leadership and human resources development. She received her master’s degree from Barry University and served as Adjunct Professor with Barry University from 2005 through 2012.
Laura is still active in the real estate profession as well as community association management. She has served on her own homeowners’ association board for several years, in the roles of secretary, vice president and president. Development, design, and communication are her personal enjoyments.
