Course Overview
Healthcare providers routinely encounter patients using dietary supplements along with prescription and OTC medications which can lead to clinically meaningful drug-supplement interactions. This course provides a practical, safety-focused approach to identifying and managing interactions with an emphasis on common supplements and medication classes seen in routine clinical practice.
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Explain why drug-supplement interactions are clinically important, frequently overlooked, and relevant to everyday practice.
- Differentiate pharmacokinetic from pharmacodynamic drug-supplement interactions.
- Identify common high-risk drug-supplement interaction patterns.
- Identify patient specific factors that may increase risk of harm due to drug-supplement interactions.
- Apply a practical framework to manage drug-supplement interactions.
