Beauty professionals will inevitably encounter clients suffering from some form of normal or abnormal hair loss. Therefore, it is important to recognize and understand the different conditions. Through education and research, a beauty professional can create a preventative care plan to help their client maintain healthy scalp and hair. Normal hair loss occurs during the natural growth cycle in phases known as Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen (Frangie, 2012). A person can shed up to 150 strands of hair per day during the telogen phase. Stress can prematurely force hair into this phase, causing the client to experience rapid hair loss. It will take three months before the hair follicle becomes active and enters the growth cycle again.
Understanding the different hair loss conditions, causes and preventions will allow beauty professionals to give clients an exclusive experience while creating customized treatment plans, gaining knowledge of hair loss and expanding one’s client services and income potential. - Mental Health and Personal Wellness: An overview for Salon Professionals 1
