About the Course 
This course is intended for all manual therapists that use massage as part of their practice. It gives a general outline to the contraindications, precautions, and considerations connecting medications and massage therapy. The course informs the therapist with pertinent information about pharmaceuticals that can interact with their treatment in an easy understand layout.   

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to: 

  • Identify the interaction between massage therapy and common medications.
  • Review categories and administration of medications.
  • Define contraindications and modifications of medications. 
  • Review effects of massage strokes. 
  • Define basics of pharmacology and pharmacokinetics.
  • Identify common herbal supplements and vitamins.
  • Review drug categorization and preparation.
  • Identify the social dynamics and availability of massage versus medication.
     

About the Author/Presenter 
Claudia Phillips, LMT, is a licensed massage therapist and internationally certified yoga teacher with over 10 years of experience. She graduated from Pacific College of Health and Science in New York with an associate degree in Massage Therapy, specializing initially in sports, orthopedic, and prenatal massage. Claudia holds massage therapy licenses in New York, Florida, and Virginia, along with certification from the MBLEX examination. Her journey into teaching yoga naturally complemented her massage therapy practice, allowing her to contribute to the physical and emotional well-being of her students, clients, and herself. Professionally, she divides her time between serving as the lead therapist at a 5-star resort in Panama and working as an independent contractor for massage therapy offices in Virginia. In both locations, Claudia develops and refines continuing education courses for manual therapists. On a personal note, Claudia is a mother, surfer, and amateur chef. She strives to infuse her courses with the same level of creativity, clarity, and intention that she brings to each massage or yoga class.
