This course explores a complex case of methemoglobinemia, a rare but potentially fatal condition in which hemoglobin is unable to carry oxygen effectively despite normal respiratory status and pulse oximetry readings. Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Identify clinical indicators of methemoglobinemia in patients presenting with unexplained cyanosis and dyspnea.
- Explain the pathophysiologic mechanism of functional hypoxia resulting from oxidized hemoglobin.
