RNs are required to complete the following continuing education hours for license renewal:
- General Hours – 16 contact hours every 2-year renewal period.
- Prevention of Medical Errors – 2 contact hours every 2-year renewal period.
- Florida Laws and Rules – 2 contact hours every 2-year renewal period.
- Human Trafficking – 2 contact hours every 2-year renewal period.
- Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace – 2 contact hours every 2nd renewal.
- HIV/AIDS – 1 contact hour; 1-time requirement.
Additional requirements:
- Domestic Violence – 2 contact hours every 3rd renewal.
First Biennium Renewal: RNs initially licensed by examination during the current biennium, or RNs initially licensed by endorsement during the current biennium who took the exam in another state within the biennium, are exempt from the general CEU requirements for the first renewal. Those licensees must complete 2 hours in Prevention of Medical Errors, 2 hours in Florida Laws and Rules, 2 hours of Human Trafficking, 2 hours of Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace, and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS. Initial licenses that were issued for less than 24 months are required to complete 1-hour for each month that the license was valid for; these hours must include the required hours listed above.
Online Limitations
There is no limit on the number of contact hours earned that may be completed through self-directed learning experiences.
64B9-5.003 Standards for Continuing Education.
(5) Evaluation. Evidence satisfactory to the Board shall be presented that participants are given an opportunity to evaluate learning experiences, instructional methods, facilities and resources used for the offering. Self-directed learning experiences, including but not limited to home study, computer programs, internet or web-based courses, are required to evaluate learner knowledge at the completion of the learning experience. The evaluation must include a minimum of 10 questions. The learner must achieve a minimum score of 70% on the evaluation to receive the contact hours. The evaluation must be graded by the provider.

NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.
