Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT)
About the Course:
This intermediate-level course includes the latest resources and research available for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants regarding NDT. This course is also a call to action for therapy practitioners to offer up their support in order to maintain the reliability and validity of NDT in both its foundational principles and its progression.
Course Objectives:
- Summarize the foundational theories and treatment behind NDT.
- Explain how NDT is delivered through occupational therapy practitioners.
- Summarize current peer-reviewed NDT research.
- Identify and describe NDT-appropriate neurological disorders outside of cerebral palsy (CP) and hemiplegia.
- Identify updated resources for proper billing of NDT in specific practice settings.
- Discuss current therapy resources for NDT to enhance the clinical practice.
About the Author:
Meredith Chandler, OTR/L, has served as an occupational therapist for almost 8 years, working primarily with adults and geriatric populations in skilled nursing, long-term, inpatient, and subacute settings. Her patients have a wide variety of conditions including neurological disorders and cognitive impairments. Additionally, Meredith works as an independent writer and researcher. Over the past 5 years, she has compiled several academic courses, articles, educational blogs, and handouts for patients, healthcare professionals, and caregivers. Meredith also has experience in conducting rehabilitative services and trainings on an international level for pediatric and geriatric care.
