Recognizing & Preventing Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma - OT

16

About the Course
This course is designed for healthcare professionals involved in either pediatric care or emergency settings, focusing on identifying and treating abusive head trauma (AHT) in infants and children. Timely and precise diagnosis is crucial for maximizing positive outcomes. Additionally, accurate diagnosis is essential, as misdiagnosis may result in additional AHT, other forms of trauma to the infant/child, or irreversible harm to the family if AHT is wrongly identified.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Distinguish the current statistics on abusive head trauma (AHT) in infants and children.
  • Categorize signs, symptoms, and long-term complications of abusive head trauma in infants and children vs. those that are not indicative of AHT.
  • Differentiate the treatment for abusive head trauma in infants and children.
  • Categorize ways of communicating with the health care team findings suggestive and not suggestive of AHT and predict strategies for educating families on preventing and recognition.
